Cut-off time: The deadline for placing or modifying backorders for domain names dropping on that day.

Domain name: A unique address used to locate web resources, such as SnapNames.com or Facebook.com.

Extension: The suffix that comes after a domain name in a web address (e.g., .com, .net, .org).

Pending delete: Domain names that are scheduled to be deleted by the central registry.

Registry (or The Central registry): The organization responsible for managing domain name extensions like .com, .net, and .co.

Registrant: The individual or organization that registers and owns a domain name.

Registrar: Intermediaries between the central registry and the registrant. NetworkSolutions is an example.

Drop: The process by which expired domain names are deleted at the registry level.
